AXSUN TECHNOLOGIES PREVIEWS ITS POWERFUL
ALL-IN-ONE SPECTROMETER AT FACSS 2003

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Billerica, MA, October 20, 2003 - AXSUN Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of micro-optoelectronic products that improve quality, performance, and productivity in a variety of industries, will preview its sensor-sized instrument at FACSS 2003 (Booth 302). According to Jack Kay, president and chief executive officer of AXSUN, the company applied its expertise in micro-optics and precision manufacturing of telecommunications devices to pioneer completely new, miniaturized, high-performance analytical instruments. The AXSUN spectrometer has all the power and functionality of a laboratory spectrometer, yet is tough enough to put on the production floor.

"Over the past decade, instrument manufacturers have been working to make smaller and more-rugged spectrometers that can be moved out of the lab," said Kay. "While there have been significant enhancements in sensitivity and ease-of-use, there have been few, if any, true breakthroughs; 'the box' may be marginally smaller and even portable - but it is still, fundamentally, a box."

Kay continued, "At AXSUN, we've taken a bold new approach to instrument design. We believe that our spectrometer is a disruptive technology - comparable to the integrated circuit in the twentieth century - that will transform manufacturing, QA/QC, and process applications."

The size of a postage stamp, the all-in-one spectrometer is designed for the exacting demands and hostile environments of process applications. Consequently, manufacturers will be able to make measurements where and when they need them, as an integral part of their quality assurance, validation, and verification programs. For example:

•  on every blender, dryer, and reactor along the pharmaceutical-manufacturing line - to ensure each dose meets precise specifications;

•  at the loading dock - to confirm that the drums of chemicals actually contain what was ordered;

•  throughout the clean room - to measure ambient-air quality, ensuring product integrity and worker safety.

The company is committed to working with OEM customers and end users to tailor the technology to meet specific customer requirements .

AXSUN will be exhibiting in Booth 302 at FACSS 2003, the annual meeting of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies, which runs October 19 - 23 at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In addition, it will present two symposia at the conference:

  • Optical, Tunable Filter-Based Micro-Instrumentation for Industrial Process Control,
    Petros A. Kotidis, Ph.D., presenter, Monday, October 20, at 1:30 p.m.
  • High-Speed, High-Resolution, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy For Industrial Process Control, Richard A. Crocombe, Ph.D., presenter, Thursday, October 23, at 11:10 a.m.
