Axsun Technologies to Launch Powerful New IntegraSpec TM XP NIR Micro-Optical Spectrometer Platform for Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Applications at IFPAC

BILLERICA, Massachusetts (Jan. 11, 2005) – Axsun Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of micro-optoelectronic products that improve quality, performance, and productivity in a variety of industries, will launch its new IntegraSpec™ XP NIR micro-spectrometer platform, optimized for liquid and gas-analysis in pharmaceutical manufacturing, at IFPAC, an annual international forum on process analytical technology. IFPAC will be held January 10-13, 2005, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA.

The IntegraSpec platform includes a pre-dispersive NIR spectrometer engine with a Super Luminescent Light Emitting Diode (SLED) light source, detector, and integrated wavelength and amplitude references. Field-proven semiconductor device technology enables maintenance-free operation, and a proprietary Wavelength/Amplitude Referencing Module (WARM) TM combined with tight wavelength accuracy, ensure rapid calibration transfer and application development. The IntegraSpec platform’s spectral sensitivity and high speed address a large portfolio of applications with better performance than currently deployed NIR process spectrometers. Low power consumption, compact size and integrated wireless connectivity maximize flexibility and minimize costs associated with in-line process installation.

“We designed the IntegraSpec XP family to be the critical engine of a complete PAT solution, providing real-time feedback for continuous quality monitoring,” said Petros Kotidis, Axsun’s vice president of marketing and business development. “Working with solutions partners including analytical instrument manufacturers, system integrators, and process control product and services suppliers, o ur goal is to help manufacturers serving the pharmaceutical industry meet their customers’ PAT objectives and realize dramatic improvements in utilization, throughput, yield, and quality. Miniaturized and extremely rugged, IntegraSpec XP spectrometers can be configured for NEMA compliance and Hazardous Zone 1 operation enabling pharmaceutical manufacturers to see inside, understand, and ultimately control their critical processes.”

The IntegraSpec XP Series includes comprehensive documentation for OEMs to support pharmaceutical manufacturers’ GMP regulatory compliance. One model, the IntegraSpec XP 310 is ideal for determining end-point drying by monitoring organic solvent and water vapors. It is a rugged, reliable and cost effective means for pharmaceutical manufacturers to increase utilization, reduce scrap, maximize yield and improve operator safety in drying operations.

The Axsun IntegraSpec XP micro-optical NIR spectrometer platform supplied through solution providers enables a cost-effective rollout of PAT (Process and Analytical Technology) applications for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Its ruggedness, reliability, low maintenance, and high performance, help pharmaceutical manufacturers to comply with FDA regulations and reduce manufacturing-related problems, all while lowering costs.

In addition to exhibiting in IFPAC at booth # 602, Axsun will present the following papers:

  • Tuesday, January 11, 2005
    • Afternoon Session III (Advanced Instrumental Concepts for Process Analysis) “High-intensity tunable sources for near-infrared spectroscopy,” Richard Crocombe, Walid Atia and Dale Flanders
  • Wednesday, January 12, 2005
    • Morning Session V (PAT/Pharma/Biotech) “PAT applications of miniature near-infrared spectrometers,” Richard Crocombe
    • Afternoon Session IV (Process NIR/FTIR) “Targeted range near-infrared analysis and calibration transfer,” Larry McDermott, Richard Crocombe, and Matthew Smith
