Background
on LIGA
LIGA is an acronym for the German words for lithography, electroforming,
and molding. Originally developed in Europe, LIGA has only recently
been accepted as a proven, commercially available production process.
Today, millions of high precision parts are fabricated using LIGA production
processes.
What types of parts can the LIGA process create?
- Virtually any shape that can be drawn in 2 dimensions
and which has vertical sides (thickness) between 100 microns to
several mm can be produced
- Rugged (proven to withstand over 65,000 Gs), precise
metal parts that withstand pressures and temperatures, and can
transfer useful pressures and torques.
- Finished components without micromachining that can be
readily assembled to create operating mechanisms
What are the advantages of LIGA over wire EDM? The LIGA process delivers
consistently smoother, straighter sidewalls, resulting in better parts
fit and smoother operation. And it has low production costs.
What types of parts can the LIGA process create?
- Either free-standing parts, or
- Parts that remain attached to the substrate.
- Precise metal inserts for injection molding.
What is unique about AXSUN's LIGA capabilities? AXSUN operates the
first commercial LIGA foundry in the U.S. We have the technology and
are committed to meeting the high reliability needs of our customers.
How is quality and consistency ensured throughout AXSUN's LIGA process?
- Extensive use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and
metallurgical analysis
- ISO 9001:2000-based Quality Management System
