Automated Assembly
The miniature optical devices developed by Axsun are only useful if final products
can be quickly and efficiently assembled and aligned in a component that will
meet the performance and reliability needs of our most demanding customers.
The performance goal for component assembly at Axsun is simple — a software-driven,
largely automated assembly line. And Axsun has it today. The assembly process
begins with the precise mounting of the various elements and assemblies.
- Using a vision-recognition system, individual photonic devices are attached
to a micro-optical bench with state-of-the-art accuracy.
- Meeting the sub-micron tolerances needed for optical instrument accuracy
requires an additional step, active alignment. Axsun's proprietary active
alignment robot sequentially locates each chip and adjusts its micro-mechanical
alignment structure to precisely set its position.
Because these key steps in the assembly process are reconfigurable through software,
the Axsun™ Packaging Platform has unprecedented flexibility
and scalability.
