Senior Process Engineer - MEMS / Micro-Optics Device Fabrication

Description:

Working closely with Design Engineering and Manufacturing, the individual filling this role will join the team responsible for developing and supporting fabrication processes for our proprietary MEMS tunable optical devices and micro-optics. The scope of responsibility centers on device fabrication (MEMs or semiconductor processing) and characterization (understanding metrology and testing) along with data tracking & analysis to support our advanced MEMS-based tunable laser development and transfer to manufacturing.

The position is hands-on and requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration and teamwork both as a project lead as well as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and develop wafer fabrication processes for MEMs and Micro-optics

  • Implement, document and maintain in-process routings, work instructions, tests & specifications.

  • Analyze correlations between processes (metrology data, process conditions and/or process variation) and performance (functional testing) throughout the entire value stream.

  • Track variation and process capability throughout the value stream, identify and prioritize continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Design and coordinate experiments for specification generation / revision and modeling compliance (specification flow-down analysis).

  • Review new specifications and analyze requirements against existing capabilities to estimate costs and yields for new products and applications.

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • 2-3 years minimum industry experience with Si wafer fabrication processes; MEMS device fabrication highly desired.

  • Strong working knowledge of optics, optical MEMS devices or optoelectronic device processing.

  • DOE or statistical process characterization experience a plus.

  • Experience with electro-optical testing, data access and manipulation tools.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Principal Reliability Engineer

Job Description

In this role you will you will be responsible for monitoring, assessing, and reporting on the reliability of Axsun’s new and existing product lines. Working in collaboration with product and design engineers, develop, oversee, implement and report on qualification and reliability test programs for Axsun’s photonic components and subsystems.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee development of test systems & methods to meet requirements of new product qualification. Develop methodology and tools for rapid evaluation of new designs & processes

  • Compile test data and prepare qualification and reliability test plans and reports. Present and/or defend and review with internal and external customers as required.

  • Carry out reliability and failure mode analysis for manufacturing, qualification and customer field failures. Develop and test physical models for relevant degradation mechanisms

  • Establish containment and corrective action plans in conjunction with product development, manufacturing and quality personnel to ensure high quality and reliability of the Axsun products.

Education

PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years industry experience.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working knowledge of degradation mechanisms, failure analysis methods and techniques for opto-electronics and microelectronics

  • Reliability analysis and lifetime projection using Weibull++ or similar

  • Root cause investigation and analysis

  • Knowledge of basic opto-electronics, electrical circuits and components

  • Microscopy and microphotography

  • Ability to generate clear and concise written reports and summaries

Machine Operator

  • Identify basic machine-related accuracy or performance issues

  • Follow production procedures

  • Maintain a clean work area

  • Perform minor repairs as needed

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus

Coating Technician

Job Summary

This position will perform optical coatings for medical components. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare the chambers, load parts and maintain the process as well as perform general maintenance of the chamber. Will need to have a thorough understanding of the measurement techniques of thin films using spectrophotometers.

Candidate is expected to have 3-5 years’ experience of optical thin film coating in a manufacturing environment. Experience with Balzer coating equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thin film coatings on optical components utilizing Balzer chambers.

  • Log critical process parameters during production runs to serve as a process history and for future data analysis.

  • Loads and operates coating chambers · Operate Metrology tools for characterization of Thin Films

  • Conducts maintenance on coating tools, shields and chambers

  • Maintains all production and development process, quality and equipment records

  • Promotes and maintains good housekeeping and safety practices

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years’ experience running Thin Film Deposition Systems

  • Strong analytical skills, utilizing effective trouble shooting and problem solving techniques

  • Experience maintaining coating equipment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Candidate should have strong work ethic, initiative, adaptability; he/she should be detail oriented and be able to work in a team.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise sound professional judgement

  • Learn the operation and maintenance of the key hardware components of the coating deposition system such as electron-beam source, ion-source, optical monitor, quartz-crystal monitor, stress control monitor, etc.

  • Adhere to the coating recipes published as Excel or Word documents and converted to the machine recipes for automatic execution of the process.
