Steven Artandi


Dr. Artandi is a professor of Medicine and Biochemistry at Stanford University. Steven brings a focus on cancer and regenerative medicine. Steven became an AAAS Fellow in 2007, a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2008, a member of the American Association of Physicians in 2015, and won the NCI Outstanding investigator Award in 2015.

Steven received an Oncology Fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He did his residency at Massachusetts General. He received his MD and PhD at Columbia University and a BA in Chemistry from Princeton.

Whitney Haring-Smith (2).png


Dr. Haring-Smith is a Managing Partner at Anzu Partners, where he focuses primarily on industrial technology investments. Prior to Anzu, Whitney was a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group where he worked for clients in the United States, the United Kingdom, China & Hong Kong, Nigeria, Angola, and Argentina. 

Whitney earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees simultaneously from Yale University, magna cum laude, and received his doctorate from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

David Michael


Mr. Michael is a Managing Partner at Anzu Partners, and developed the firm’s focus on fostering growth in companies developing breakthrough industrial technologies.  Prior to his work at Anzu, Mr. Michael spent 24 years at The Boston Consulting Group, where he was a Senior Partner and served in numerous leadership roles. He founded the firm’s Beijing office and led the firm’s Greater China practice, and then subsequently established the firm’s globalisation practice. David has experience in technology, telecommunications, and medical technology. David is on the boards of Nuburu (industrial lasers), Terapore (nanofiltration for bioprocess) and Pivotal Systems (semiconductor capital equipment), among other companies.

David has been a member of the World Economic Forum and the U.S. China Business Council.  He is on the International Advisory Board of UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy. He has earnedan MBA from Stanford University and a BA in Economics from Harvard University.

Ron Nicol


Mr. Nicol is Chairman Emeritus, Board of Visitors at Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and spent the majority of his career in a range of senior positions including Senior Partner and Managing Director withThe Boston Consulting Group. Ron brings ~30 years of experience in management consulting. He has worked on major transformations with Fortune 50 companies and brings a focus in telecommunications, strategy, and M&A. Ron was a Top 25 Consultant in 2006.

Ron is a former US naval officer teaching Nuclear Engineering. He has received an MBA from Duke University and a BS in Physics from the US Naval Academy.

David Seldin


Mr. Seldin is a Managing Partner at Anzu Partners. David has founded, purchased, developed, financed and sold businesses; founded, managed and sold sports teams; built stadiums; founded and advised charitable foundations; directed complex litigation; purchased and sold buildings and land parcels; and served extensively on boards of directors.  David has significant early-stage and start-up experience, both as a principal and as an investor. 

David began his career at The Boston Consulting Group, as a Consultant and then a Manager in the Chicago office.  David received a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. David is a Trustee of Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

Mark Zediker


Mr. Zediker is the CEO of Nuburu, a Denver-based laser company and the head of the Scientific Advisory Board at Foro Energy. He is also the former CEO, President, and Founder of Nuvonyx. Mark has over 200 publications and over 20 patents. He is the Chair of the high power section of the Photonics West Conference and a member of the Physics Advisory Board at the University of Illinois. 

Mark received a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Illinois.

Axsun Leadership Team



Mr. Hartmann brings over 25 years of leadership experience in General Management, Sales, Marketing, Strategy and Business Development in the Technology and Medical Device Industry.

Before assuming the CEO responsibilities at Axsun, Jonathan served as GM and VP at Axsun, then a subsidiary of Philips and Volcano Corporation.  Prior to that, Jonathan spent 5 years at Volcano Corporation leading the Forward Looking IVUS and Structural Heart Business as GM and Business Unit Leader.

Mr. Hartmann’s background includes both small and large company experience.  He spent 3 years as V.P.  of Sales and Marketing for GI Dynamics, where he had global responsibility for introducing a novel technology for treating Diabetes and Obesity.  

Prior to that, he spent 6 years in various leadership roles with Guidant Corporation for both Cardiac Rhythm Management and Vascular Intervention, including sales, marketing and business development roles.  He also served as Market Development Manager at Urologix, a medical device start-up company that introduced a minimally invasive technology for the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia.  Prior to Urologix, Mr. Hartmann spent four years in sales and strategic development in the Vascular Division at W.L. Gore and Associates, and several years with U.S. Surgical’s minimally invasive surgical device group.  Mr. Hartmann began his career at Xerox Corporation, where, for 4 years, he handled major accounts for its U.S. marketing group.

Mr. Hartmann earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.   He received a BS degree from St. Lawrence University.



Mr. Baldwin has over 16 years of finance experience in the telecommunications and internet industries. He joined Axsun from Monster Worldwide where he held the position of Vice President, Finance supporting the US Sales operation. Prior to Monster, Mr. Baldwin was Director of Finance, Carrier Networks at Nortel supporting the VoIP and TDM Switching divisions. He has extensive experience in strategic investment management, financing, sales operations, manufacturing operations and M&A including post merger integration.

Mr. Baldwin holds a Masters of Business Administration degree and an Honors Business Administration degree from the University of Windsor, Ontario. He also holds a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Western Ontario. 



CHIEF SCIENce OfficeR / VP of Engineering

Peter holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and carried out post-doctoral research at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone in Japan where he helped to establish and expand their foreign researcher program. He has been involved in the development of advanced III-V materials and structures for the telecommunications industry since 1985, including the first wide-scale commercialization of the 980nm pump laser.

As an original founder, Dr. Whitney has been providing leadership and technical vision to Axsun’s engineering teams since its founding in 1998, adding expertise in MEMS devices, semiconductor amplifiers, materials, design and process development for opto-electronic packaging and in qualification/reliability to the broad base of technical capabilities in the company. In his current roles he oversees the R&D organization, new product development and transfer into manufacturing.

Axsun's technical team includes ≈25 R&D and manufacturing engineers plus many talented technicians and operators who do amazing things together.  A significant portion of our technical leaders have been with Axsun since shortly after its founding in 1998, and Axsun boasts 8 engineers and scientists with doctoral level educations.  Together the Axsun technical team has been awarded over 100 patents for the core technologies and processes that enable our cutting-edge products.
